In the 20th century, Niksic was known as a city of culture and art. More than a hundred years ago, theater performances were staged there, cultural and artistic societies were founded, and much more. After a long period of neglect – both of Niksic and its cultural heritage – new initiatives are now emerging, one of which is the city’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2030.
