The network of rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounts to a total of about 4000 km. Although water is one of the most important natural resources, 119 small hydropower plants have been built in Bosnia and Herzegovina so far, and another 354 are in preparation. In the middle of this year, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina passed a law banning the construction of small hydropower plants, while in the Republic of Srpska, river protection is still pending.
