Emigration of young people from the Western Balkans has been going on for years. North Macedonia is among the most affected. The population has decreased by over 10% compared to the 2002 census. The reasons behind this trend are slow economic development, lack of investments, and 40% of youth say that corruption motivates them to go abroad.
