The events of the enthronement of Metropolitan Joanikije brought too
much emotion and division to Montenegro. In doing so, the facts are
being forgotten. The Serbian Orthodox Church came to Montenegro with
the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes in 1920. This was preceded
by the abolition of the Montenegrin state, its annexation to Serbia, and
the abolition of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church. All its church buildings ended up in the hands of the Serbian Orthodox Church,
which now considers them their own.
