The struggle of the inhabitants of southeast Macedonia against the construction of a gold and copper mine on Mount Ogražden above the Strumica villages of Ilovica and Shtuka has been going on for years. The concessionaire, the large corporation “Euromax Resources”, is persistently looking for a way to obtain a license for the exploitation of mineral raw materials. If the mine is opened, activists and residents of this region say that the whole southeast and entire country will suffer catastrophic consequences.
