Ten years, 530 shows, broadcasting on 36 TV stations, 15,000 participants, millions of views, a website, six countries, two presidents, three prime ministers, many MPs… All of these figures reflect the impact of the PERSPECTIVA project, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. The project is led by the Perspektiva Plus Association, in collaboration with the Mebius Film production company from Sarajevo, and in partnership with The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) from the United States, and RFE/RL, which publishes the show on its portal every Sunday.
What do young people think about the show? Almost all responses can be summarized in one sentiment: we finally have the chance to speak up. That’s what Maria, Majda, Nedim, Aleksandar, Omar, Nina, Medina, and all the others say, without exception.
Marija
“I’m happy that, for the first time in my life, I can attend a show where I can express my personal opinion, share my views, and offer suggestions.”

Majda
“It was great; we learned something new. I enjoyed it and I hope there will be more shows like this.”

Nedim
“I’m really glad that young people have the opportunity to have their voices heard.”

Aleksandar
“We are all here because we are revolted, we have no one to turn to. We came here to speak to ourselves in the hope that maybe someone will hear us. We are fighting a battle here in Serbia. I’m not sure what it’s like across the Drina River, with auto-chauvinists and auto-chauvinism.”

Nina
“I like that there are people who give young people the opportunity to say what they think.”

Medina
“We have the chance to express our opinions without being criticized by others, and we enjoy freedom of speech, which, in real life, we don’t always have.”

The PERSPECTIVA show offers not only the opportunity to speak but also an opportunity to learn. Tadija, Belmina, Milana, Omar, Anja, Najra, and Almedina share their thoughts on this.
Tadija
“People who might not have known they were like-minded discovered that they actually were during this show.”

Belmina
“This has greatly contributed to changing my opinions and attitudes toward the political scene, and has given me more optimism regarding the prospect of change in this country.”

Milana
“This show was eye-opening for me and made me ask myself some important questions.”

Almedina
“I think it is very important to build a generation that thinks critically, a generation that will, starting with their heirs, their parents, and people from their immediate environment, push that narrative forward. This will create a more thoughtful generation that will truly build a better tomorrow for all of us.”

Faruk believes parents should also watch the show, Sara says that PERSPECTIVA encourages action, while Petar claims that PERSPECTIVA does “a lot of good.”
Faruk
“I was just thinking how great it would be if our parents—along with all of us who were on this show—came tomorrow, listened to our comments, and gave their feedback. Then, we could respond to their comments, because I feel that communication between all of us is missing.”

Sara
“Participating in this show was very encouraging for me because, finally, I see that there are people who are genuinely interested in getting activated and taking action.”

Petar
“One of the most beautiful aspects about participating in the show are that the other participants and the team behind the show, and that it’s a very important, positive example that will do a lot of good. Whether today, tomorrow, or in 10 years, it doesn’t matter. It will bring about something very positive.”

Naima from Sarajevo says that young people should not give up.
“Of course, we shouldn’t stop just because someone tells us that we can’t do something. Behind every door, there is another door. And if there is no door, there is always a window.”

PERSPEKTIVA continues its mission. Speak your mind—the future belongs to you. If you want to shape it, stop, take action, and make change.
