Violence against women is recurring, and incidents are common. According to the gender equality index in the Balkans, Montenegro is at the bottom with a coefficient of 85, together with North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Slovenia and Croatia are best placed, followed by Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania.
