800,000 PASSENGERS AND ONLY 120,000 TICKETS

The mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, recently presented a new public transportation ticket collection system. Ten years ago, a foreign company was brought in to collect tickets. The decision was controversial because it was considered that the money from ticket sales should fill the City’s budget and not the pockets of a private company. Citizens decided to boycott buying tickets. The most frequent users of this service are young people and senior citizens. Since senior citizens have the right to free public transport, it is assumed that most fare evaders were young people.
