North Macedonia has an abundance of natural wealth. This natural environment is home to thousands of illegal waste disposal sites. Waste management is part of the state’s obligations as a prerequisite for full EU membership. However, only one landfill in the country is in adherence with the national legislation on waste management, and it is located in Skopje. The promise of regional landfills from several years ago remains unfulfilled.
