If not us, then who?

In January 2007, in Beška, Vojvodina, the activists of the Serbian Youth Initiative for Human Rights tried to point out the support that the Serbian Progressive Party offers to Veselin Šljivančanin. Šljivančanin was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Before Šljivančanin’s speech at the tribune, that was organized by the ruling party, these activists showed a transparent label with the words “War criminals should fall silent so that we could talk about victims”.

One year and nine months later, before the Misdemeanor Court, they were convicted of a violation of public order and peace because they were protesting against war criminal. Eight activists of the Initiative were sentenced to a total fine of RSD 450.000 (EUR 3.800). In order to pay the penalties, activists collected money thanks to a public campaign through which the citizens, whose attitudes were defended in this forum, donated the entire amount.
Sofija Todorović is one of the convicted activists of the Initiative who spoke for our portal on how young people should change something and talk about problems. We have that right. Watch the whole story in the video.
